2010 has proven to be a successful year for Origo Branding Company— new accounts, new awards, and a powerful, new brand. With these new successes, we decided to do some hiring!

Origo is looking for creative, business-minded professionals to add to our team of brand experts:

This position can range from entry level and up, with lots of room to grow. The candidate should be proficient in HTML (CSS, ActionScript, Flash and/or CMS).

We love launching each issue of NextSpace because we always learn something new and useful about the latest innovations not only affecting the modern library, but our everyday lives.

In Issue #15 of NextSpace: Metadata Everywhere our partners at OCLC (the Online Computer Library Center) focuses on data, and data-about-data. What we learn is about Metadata, and how it is used to track materials, assess needs, compare collections, inform research, manage workflows, plan budgets and even make friends.

As our partners at OCLC states:

“…it puts libraries, and catalogers, right in the middle of a revolution in how we think about representing and describing information. And the more partners we can involve in these processes, the more chances libraries have to add value up and down a variety of data supply chains.”

Origo worked to successfully represent these concepts through showing tangible products and their connection to the network of information that has been installed into our everyday lives. Now with 1.9 billion items online, it is apparent why NextSpace and OCLC are one of the most leading information providers around the world.

Read the whole issue here: NextSpace Issue #15: Metadata Everywhere, or check out more of our creative publication work.

With a throwback to the Tommaso Inc. days, Origo will be featured in the next issue of LogoLounge Volume 6 showing last year’s Halloween promotional logo.

Celebrating the Halloween spirit, the Origo promotional campaign showed off our great skill and expertise in the area of illustration and typographic design. We held a Halloween party for our clients and friends, making it one of the most fun holidays of the year. Some of the work included environmental banners, postcards, mailers, and posters for our guests. And no, we didn’t forget to throw in some of Halloween’s most valued treats for the party guests!

Inspired by vintage Halloween masks, these cards paired fun illustration with interesting typography to create a complete Halloween campaign. The cards were mailed out as a package to invite clients to the Origo Halloween party, creating quite the buzz among friends and client— overall creating one spooky success!

For those who don’t know LogoLounge— it is a forum in which designers and branding shops of the highest standard showcase their portfolio of logo designs. Each year, logos are voted upon by a panel of judges and few are selected to be featured in their annual publication.

LogoLounge Volume 6 is to hit bookstores and design shops February, 2011. Until then, feel free to check out some of our other cool promotions.

It has been six months since our rebrand from Tommaso Inc. to Origo, and in that time we have had a lot of fun going through some changes— but we aren’t done yet. Not by a long shot.

So expect some new developments in these upcoming months because branding High Street just isn’t enough.

Every year on December 1st, the world comes together for World AIDS Day— a day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. This day is especially dear to us due to our good friends at the Ohio AIDS Coalition.

The Ohio AIDS Coalition (OAC) is a non-profit, statewide membership organization providing education, leadership training, advocacy, and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Ever year we help the OAC promote their largest event, the OAC Leadership Conference, but this year was extra special because on November 16th to the 17th we were able to help the OAC hold their first 2009 World AIDS Day Leadership Conference.

Conducting 40 workshops and 4 plenary sessions, the conference offered participants numerous educational opportunities regarding all aspects of HIV prevention, care and treatment. Partnering with numerous state and non-profit organizations, the OAC reached out to 459 participants, bringing the HIV/AIDS community together for one day, spreading awareness, and making the 2009 Conference a major success.

Halloween this year, like every year, was a blast. We loved seeing everyone’s great costumes and wicked cool make-up. There were definitely a few highlights from the web and around town. Even everyone at the office had a great costume idea.
This year was especially fun for costumes. We saw a lot of people breaking away from the typical Vampire or Zombie and really going for nostalgic childhood or classic movie characters. Designer Ryan Brinkerhoff pulled out a relic of an old WB cartoon character, Freakazoid. Not familiar? The cartoon was only on for two seasons. Here’s a link to the intro as a refresher. Marketing Manager Alessandro Ciaffoncini put a twist on Elvis and Designer Chris Barr went as a dance crew or workers’ comp victims, depending on how you view the bloodied painters suits.

Exciting changes for Downtown are visible at the City Center site…and more’s to come!

It’s true. Being downtown, and in this case, right down the street from City Center, all of us at Origo Branding Company can see the landscape changing daily and it’s making way for exciting new transformations. City Center, once the gem of downtown Columbus, has been a big question mark for some time. And once it finally closed and moved to Capital South ownership in 2007, work began to find a solution for the 9-acre plot of land. So many have had ideas for the land, such as pulling in IKEA, Target or retail as it once was and these options have all been tested. But none of the ideas has proven to be viable.

So, we are now on our way to having a fabulous urban park, Columbus Commons. Not only will it have pebblestone walkways, Riviera seating, a grove and a grassy area but it will also offer the possibility of building offices or condos on the perimeters – and all by the end of next year. The design comes from the same people who revamped the very cool Bryant Park in NYC and the best part is that, because it will be built on top of the 950-spot City Center underground parking lot, it will always remain a park – for structural reasons!

Take a hike to the southern end of downtown and check out the demolition. City Center has already been partially gutted (very strange) and the E. Rich Street side is showing major exterior demolition.

There’s so much to remove but just the thought of what’s to come, should make us all giddy with excitement!

Origo Branding Company has just completed a re-brand of Abbott Nutrition’s Tube Feeding at Home Booklet — a 32-page publication that is targeted at children and adults who have traditional feeding difficulties and rely on liquid nutrition as a source of protein. The booklet is distributed to people who must make the adjustment to liquid nutrition and need easy-to-understand information regarding the process of tube feeding, preventing infections, and problem management. With Abbott’s line of tube feeding liquids, pumps, and specialized feeding tubes, they wanted to make sure that the information not only introduced tube feeding and its process, but also provide informative illustrations to be used as visual aides. Working closely with the Abbott Nutrition team, Origo was responsible for writing the copy contents and the full re-branding direction. The booklet has been successful and is already in need ofbeing reprinted due to high demand.

Origo used photography to show the mobility and freedom one can have with specialized pumps and their carrying devices. Model selection and photo direction by the Origo team ensured that the images represented daily scenarios that tube feeding users encounter at home. Photos of pumps in the home setting were used to demonstrate that users can tube feed in the comfort of their own homes. Spot illustrations were created to demonstrate usages for tube feeding specific syringes and to provide overviews of equipment maintenance.

<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-75" title="Tube feeding booklet detail shot.

This was a rewarding project in that we had the opportunity to create a resource that will inform people making the shift to tube feeding an easier transition to understand. See more of our great client work.

Google Wave is their online application designed as though email were invented today.

Google is releasing a new html 5 application called Google Wave later this year. It could change the way we interact in online social networking, communication, and marketing.

What does all of this mean for us? Essentially, Google is trying to combine email, instant messaging, documents, collaborative communication, rich media, and much more in a Wave. Email as though it were invented today! Unlike when it was invented before the internet.

Google Wave is a self-described equal parts conversation and document in which people can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and even more. The Wave can be shared with a few or many users with the ability to reply or post to questions or topics in the middle of the document or to another person. Waves allow for instant communication between users. Google Wave also supports a rich set of open API’s that allow developers to embed waves in other web services and build their own extensions to work inside of Wave’s. In other words, start a Wave conversation on your site.

Google Wave may even change the way we interact with one another on the web through current services like twitter, flickr, email, and blogging—as a platform we use to interact with those services. This also means new ways and avenues to market brands.

One tool already in the works, for brands to take advantage of, is a useful customer service tool called salesforce.com. It allows a customer to ask a question and a useful robot pulls information down regarding the question. If the customer does not find the information useful, they have the option of being able to chat with a representative to solve the problem. Because of the capabilities of the Wave, their conversation could remain open for days, based on the consumers urgency to respond.

Google has over 146 million users worldwide which could easily turn into Wave users. Spreading Waves nearly overnight. How fast and how powerful will this tool be? Only time—and the community backing it-will tell how deep this will change our online experiences.
