CML Launches “Ready to Read” Initiative

Partnering with Nationwide Insurance, the Columbus Metropolitan Library officially launched their second Ready to Read Corp. last Thursday in an incredible community celebration. The Ready to Read Corps is “first of its kind”, using research-based findings and reports concerning reading development in America’s children, and in turn provide meaningful solutions to the challenges of early literacy. Based on the Public Library Association’s national initiative Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library, the program supports the following ideals:

  • Emphasizing the importance of the parent/caregiver role in the development of early literacy in their children.
  • Explaining to parents the components that make up early literacy.
  • Providing parents with a variety of activities that support each of these components.

Through a grant provided by Nationwide and the design help of Origo Branding Company, the CML decided to invest in a new Bookmobile to spread their new inspiring messages for parents to promote early literacy. The new Ready to Read Bookmobile is smaller than its sister bookmobiles with the intention to reach neighborhoods where the bigger buses are unable to enter.

Launched in a major community event at the Linden Branch, CML Executive Director, Patrick Losinski, spoke about the Library’s continuous commitment to create library resources accessible to kids of all neighborhoods. At the event, children from the area celebrated the new buses, as well as the Bookmobile cookies (shown above).

For their continuous involvement in community programs and reading initiatives, the Columbus Metropolitan Library was ranked Number 1 library in the country again this year by Library Journal.
