Culture & People: The True Ingredients of Creative Magic

Let’s be honest: a great agency isn’t just a portfolio of engaging designs, clever taglines, and extraordinary media reports. It’s about the people behind the screens, the vibe in the room, and the relationships built over endless cups of coffee.

Since 1985, we’ve operated on a simple belief at Origo: that high-caliber creative magic doesn’t come from rigid playbooks or restrictive processes. It happens when you build a space where people actually want to show up, think big, and push boundaries. When a team feels valued, supported, and genuinely hyped about what they do, that energy spills over into everything we create. Our clients experience this in the creativity of our brainstorms, the collaboration behind every problem-solving conversation, and a final product that takes their business to the next level.

That energy is why we were so honored to be named one of Columbus Business First’s of Central Ohio 2026 Best Places to Work, based on survey responses directly from our team members.

Awards are nice, but the real win is knowing our team has a playground where they can thrive, get excited over great ideas, and do work they’re proud to put their names on. Here’s how we keep that secret sauce simmering:

  • Hire character over ego. Skills can be taught, but being a genuine, curious, and humble human? That’s gold. Great creative work is a team sport, so we look for people who leave their ego at the door, listen well, and elevate everyone around them.
  • No growth guessing games. Nobody wants their career to feel like a mystery novel. We give our team clear roadmaps, real conversations about their goals, and consistent feedback and reviews that provide direction to where they want to go next in their profession. When our people level up, Origo levels up.
  • Never stop learning. The marketing world moves fast—blink, and there’s a new platform to master. We feed our team’s curiosity with professional development stipends for workshops, bootcamps, and deep dives into new skills. Recently, we launched an AI Learning Series that provides continuous learnings on how our agency can use AI to reduce administrative time to make room for more strategic and creative discussions.
  • Good ideas don’t care about titles. Whether you’re an intern or an executive, your voice matters in our creative huddles. The best breakthroughs happen when unexpected perspectives collide, assumptions get challenged, and everyone takes ownership of the solution.
  • Respect life outside the grid. Genius doesn’t happen when people are burned out. We champion work-life balance and flexible hybrid schedules because we know that time away to recharge, spend with family, or pursue personal passions makes everyone sharper and happier when we’re back together.
  • Celebrate all the wins. Sure, landing a huge client or launching a major campaign gets a victory lap. But so does the person who saved the day on a tight deadline, brought the killer idea to a Monday morning brainstorm, or just made a teammate’s day easier. The small moments matter just as much, which is why we start and end each week with callouts of appreciation for team members who supported them or went above-and-beyond to make impact.

At the end of the day, happy teams build incredible client experiences. When people love where they work, they care more deeply, aim higher, and go the extra mile because they genuinely want to.

A CEO can’t just write “great culture” into an employee handbook and call it a day. It’s built every single day by the people who walk through our doors. We’re immensely proud of the environment we have built, as well as the people who have helped us get here. But we also know that building a great culture is never finished. It takes continued commitment to support our team, help them grow, and foster an environment where they can do their best work.
